first written evidence indicates that the game started in 776 BC. it is divided in to two eras:
ancient Olympics and modern Olympics:
ancient Olympics: started from 776 BC to 393 AD was first held in Olympia, Greece to honor the Greek god Zeus. Only Greek men were allowed to compete in Olympics at that time. in 393 AD it was banned by then Roman Emperor Theodosius I.
modern Olympics: in 1896 the Olympics was again revived by Pierre de Coubertin. it was first held in Athens city. it is Open to athletes from all nations, regardless of social status.
Motto Olympics 2024
The motto of Olympics 2024 is “Games Wide Open” (French: “Ouvrons grand les jeux”). The traditional motto is “Citius, Altius, Fortius – Communiter” which means “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together”. in 2021 a new word community was added to the traditional motto which means community as together.it was added to bring the nations together and unite them and preach the peace all over the world. motto is an essential part of games as it inspires the athletes to train hard, it motivates them. motto represent the core vale of the games.

the mascot for Olympics 2024 is called Phryges derived from the Phrygian cap worn by the slaves in Phyrgia. Phrygian cap symbolize freedom as it was used in the French revolution. it is the first time in history that there is a single mascot for Olympic 2024 and the Paralympics 2024.
